Looking at Garage Storage Systems

If your garage is a complete disaster area, then it’s about time that you looked at garage storage systems as a way to organize the mess! Not only will you be able to discard unnecessary items, you will be able to find your things quickly and easily. It’s all about technique and organizational skills that will make your garage a more pleasant and beautiful place.

The very first step in cleaning up your garage is to get rid of anything that you don’t use or need. Eliminate as much “junk” as you can by giving it to charity, selling it or throwing it away. You’ll be amazed at how much more room you have by simply getting rid of things that you don’t ever use. And, by opening up space in your garage, you no longer will stumble over things that are thrown about and you might even find room to park your car!

Now that you have more room in your garage, it’s time to start organizing. Start by classifying your belongings and putting like things together. Put things in groups – tools, gardening equipment, home improvement items, sporting equipment and so on. Buy several large storage bins that you can stack together. Clear plastic works well because you’re able to actually see what’s in the bin. If you have valuable or dangerous items to store, then buy a bin that has a secure lock.

Once you have like items stored together in bins, it’s time to start adding shelves or cabinets. They can be attached right to your garage walls or you can build units that are freestanding. You might even want to consider attaching hanging shelves to your garage’s ceiling. Put heavy items on the lowest shelves and lighter things on top. Hang up as many items as you can. Put hooks along empty walls for things like shovels, brooms and rakes. You can also hang up seasonal sporting equipment such as bicycles and skis.

As you can see, garage storage systems aren’t too difficult and will make your garage much more attractive and usable. All it takes is for you to get rid of things that you just “can’t live without” and to organize what’s left into convenient storage units.
